[1] MSc thesis topic available in the Biomass processing technologies team at VTT

Are you interested in combining biotechnology with biomass processing? We are looking for a bright student to carry out MSc thesis work in the Biomass processing technologies team. The work is part of an on-going project New Fibre Products and we are looking for a MSc thesis worker to a sub-project aiming at pulp modification using a novel type of enzyme.

The work is suitable for a biotechnology/biochemistry/bioprocess technology student willing to learn carbohydrate analytics or to a chemist/analytical chemist willing to learn about enzymes in biomass processing. We expect you to have experience in lab work and a curious mind. We offer a challenging project, excellent facilities and the support and supervision of a great team. Key task of the student is to develop an enzyme activity assay which includes end-product detection with liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry. Another task is to use the developed assay for enzyme characterization. The student will be affiliated with VTT as an external worker and will receive 12000 € (gross) compensation.

[2] Hae vuoden 2017 iGEM-joukkueeseen! / Apply to the 2017 iGEM team!

Nyt on haku päällä siisteinpään kesäduuniin ikinä! Toteuta ideoitasi opiskelijoiden omassa tutkimusryhmässä, suunnittele ja rakenna DNA:sta oma biologinen systeemi ja lähde kilpailemaan Bostoniin. Opi hurjasti uutta ja vietä ikimuistoinen kesä synteettisen biologian parissa.

Tässä projektissa pääset tekemään vaikka mitä - tutkimusta, labratöitä, ohjelmointia, varainkeruuta, yhteiskuntaan vaikuttamista, mallinnusta, bisnesstrategian kehittämistä, taiteiden yhdistämistä biologiaan ja vaikka mitä.

Haemme nyt kaikenkarvaisia kandidaatti- ja maisterivaiheen opiskelijoita Helsingin yliopiston ja Aalto-yliopiston yhteiseen joukkueeseen. Tärkeintä on motivaatio ja halu oppia uutta, joten mukaan kannattaa hakea, vaikka synteettisestä biologiasta ei olisikaan mitään hajua.

[4] Akateemisen kyykän MM-kilpailut 2017 // World Championships of Academic Kyykkä 2017

Vuodet vierähtävät ja Akateemisen kyykän MM-kilpailut tulevat aina uudestaan! Vuoden kovimmat kyykkäkarkelot pidetään jälleen TTY:n kampusalueella Tampereen Hervannassa lauantaina 11.2.2017, jolloin tuhannet opiskelijat kokoontuvat kello 9:00 alkaen yhteen nauttimaan akateemisen kyykän jännittävistä hetkistä sekä toistensa seurasta viidessä eri sarjassa: Yleisessä sarjassa, Naisten sarjassa, Prosarjassa, ISE (I Speak English) -sarjassa sekä Firmakyykässä.

Joukkuepaikkojen hinnat ovat seuraavat:

On Saturday February 11th 2017 the Tampere University of Technology campus area in Hervanta, Tampere, will once again be filled with thousands of students who have come to enjoy the spectacle of the World Championships of Academic Kyykkä! Starting at 09:00 in the morning hundreds of teams will fiercely compete for victory on fields around the campus.

The ISE (I Speak English) Series is specially reserved for internationally-minded people and exchange students who would like to compete in academic kyykkä. The official language for the series is English which means that all the referees will speak English and the rules are also available in English.

After the tough matches it’s good to relax and party a bit which is made very much possible by the official afterparty. The parties take place in Tampere centre at Ravintolamaailma in Koskikeskus shopping centre and at Club Hehku.  At Ravintolamaailma in Koskikeskus the party atmosphere is guaranteed by a Finnish rising star Evelina and at Club Hehku by a Finnish grime band Horse Attack Sqwad and the clubs’ own DJs. The After Party Overall Badge that also serves as your entry ticket costs 10 euros and can be purchased online at http://teaclub.fi/kauppa.

[5] Join women's american football team Aalto Aliens

Are you a female student at Aalto University? Are you interested in finding a new sport or continuing a beloved hobby?

There is a women’s American Football team at Aalto University, Aalto Aliens! Aalto Aliens practice on Sundays from 15:10-16:40 at Otahalli in Otaniemi, and they are open for students to come try out the sport.

American football is a sport that requires players of many different athletic types: from smaller agile skill positions in the secondary and backfield, to the heavy lifters on the line of scrimmage.

The team plays in the Finnish Academic League, which is comprised of players of all experience levels: from beginners to Maple league and national team players. No matter what your experience level or athletic type, there is a position for you in Aalto Aliens. The team also organizes evenings for players to watch games, socialize, and hang out. Kesätöitä Swecolla on tarjolla rakennesuunnittelun, lvi-suunnittelun ja sisäilmatutkimuksen parissa Helsingissä, Tampereella, Lahdessa, Kuopiossa, Jyväskylässä, Oulussa, Hämeenlinnassa, Rovaniemellä, Seinäjoella, Pietarsaaressa ja Kouvolassa. Kesätyöhaku avautuu 2.1.2017 ja  Sweco järjestää opiskelijoille suunnatun Students at Sweco päivän 18.1.2017 Swecon Ilmalan toimipisteessä Helsingissä.
